Planting and Watering Coconut Palm

Saturday the LTA team planted our first coconut tree for the roadway.  Volunteers picked out the tree at the nursery, then carried it to the property by golf cart.  (As previously stated in another blog, we plan to align the road with coconut palms to the LTA property.)  With one accord, it was a group effort; some planted, others watered, and God will give the increase!

Volunteers also started to paint over the “For Sale” sign that has for some time distinguished the roadway entrance to the property.  Although the paint didn’t go on as planned, we will continue this process until the sign successfully shows “Future Home of Living Tree Academy”.

Kayak Race in San Pedro

At 6:00am Saturday morning a two-day kayaking race began in San Pedro.  The kayakers’ raced from one side of the island traveling to the north side where they spent the night then continued the adventure the following day.

Kayakers arrived back in San Pedro Sunday afternoon/evening where they were greeted by many locals with BBQ and prizes.

Touring South Side and World Famous Event

Yesterday our meeting with the Manager of Education in San Pedro was cancelled due to a last minute emergency at school.  We took this opportunity to tour the South Side of San Pedro and look at architecture, as well as visit the Victoria House.

Since we were in town on Thursday afternoon, the team stayed around to see the world famous "Chicken Drop" in San Pedro.  If you do not know about it, ask our volunteers.  Mostly tourists participated in this event.

Volunteer Team Arrives

LTA’s next team has arrived to San Pedro.  They were picked up at the Belize City International airport, taken by taxi then by water taxi to Isla Bonita (also known as “beautiful island”).  The water taxi was packed with people (see picture below).

After unpacking some essentials, we headed back into town to get a late lunch at Elvi’s.  On the way we picked up a local friend and took him home across town (about a half hour walk).  Meanwhile the team was able to get a quick overview of town (front, middle and back street).  After dinner we headed straight for the property trying to avoid dusk (which means avoiding bugs!).  We quickly looked at the progress and dashed back to the staff house to recuperate for the evening.

Planting and Watering

Today the first plant was planted for the LTA road project.  These plants are very hearty and are seen all over the island.  Located in front of the current sign that reads "For Sale", this is the only marker to the property at this time.  A new sign will be made in the near future showing "Future Home of Living Tree Academy".  Meanwhile, we plant and water; God gives the increase!
